THE ORDER FOR THE CELEBRATION AND PUBLIC WORSHIP OF GOD
The Lord’s Day, September 7, 2025
10:30 AM Morning Service
He was in the world, and the world was made through him,
yet the world did not know him. He came to his own,
and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
John 1:10-12

The Voluntary for Silent Prayer
*Call to Worship Psalm 118
Minister: Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
People: The Lord is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Minister: Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord.
People: I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
Minister: The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
People: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Minister: The Lord is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us.
Unison: You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you.
*Hymn of Adoration No. 389
This Is the Day the Lord Has Made
*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Prayer
Life-Giving God: We approach you as Father and Friend, our portion forever, our exceeding joy, our strength of heart. We worship you, our Almighty Creator and Sovereign Ruler. And we praise you for sending Jesus, our merciful Savior. When our guilty fears discourage us from approaching you, we thank you that Jesus has reconciled you to us. May his truth illuminate all the darkness in our hearts, establish our faith when it is wavering, comfort us when we are grieving, and assure us that you will accomplish in us your good will. In his mighty name we come to you. Amen.
*Affirmation of Faith Heidelberg Catechism 56
Minister: What do you believe concerning the forgiveness of sins?
People: I believe that God, because of Christ's satisfaction, will no more remember my sins, nor my sinful nature, against which I have to struggle all my life, but will graciously grant me the righteousness of Christ, that I may never come into condemnation.
Unison: Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!
*Gloria Patri Tune: Lauda Anima
Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit, God Almighty, Three in One!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Glory be to him alone.
The Revelation of God’s Will Romans 12:9-21
Minister: Let love be genuine.
People: Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.
Minister: Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
People: Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.
Minister: Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
People: Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
Minister: Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
People: Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
Minister: Live in harmony with one another.
People: Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
Minister: Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
People: If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.
Minister: Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
People: To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.”
Unison: Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Hymn of Confession No. 493
We Have Not Know Thee As We Ought
(Tune: St. Catherine)
Corporate Confession
Almighty and most merciful God and Father: we have erred and strayed from your ways; like lost sheep we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts; we have offended against your holy laws; we have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us miserable offenders; spare those, O God, who confess their faults; restore those who are penitent according to your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; and grant, O merciful Father, for His sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, sober and righteous life to the glory of your holy Name and the salvation of our own souls. Amen.
Silent Confession
