I write to you, not because you do not know the truth,
but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. (I John 2:21)

The Voluntary for Silent Prayer
*Call to Worship: Psalm 50:1-6
Minister: The Mighty One, God the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
People: Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest.
Minister: He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
People: “Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
Minister: The heavens declare his righteousness,
Unison: for God himself is judge!
*Hymn of Adoration: “The Mighty God, the Lord” (TH No. 316)
1 The mighty God, the Lord,
hath spoken unto all;
from rising to the setting sun,
he unto earth doth call.
From Zion, his own hill,
where perfect beauty dwells,
Jehovah hath his glory shown,
in brightness that excels.
2 Our God shall surely come,
and silence shall not keep;
before him fire shall waste, and storms
tempestuous round him sweep.
He to the heav'ns above
shall then send forth his call,
and likewise to the earth, that he
may judge his people all.
3 "Together let my saints
unto me gathered be,
those that by sacrifice have made
a covenant with me."
Then shall the heav'ns declare
his righteousness abroad;
because the Lord himself is judge,
yea, none is judge, but God.
*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Prayer
O Lord God, you are our Preserver, Governor, Savior, and coming Judge. Quiet our souls to call upon your name. May we be rich in faith, be strong in faith, walk by faith, experience the joy of faith, do the work of faith, hope through faith. Perceiving nothing in ourselves, may we find in the Savior wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. In his name we approach you. Amen.
from “Protection” in The Valley of Vision
*Confession of Faith: Westminster Confession of Faith 11.2
Minister: What do you believe concerning faith and justification?
People: Faith—receiving and resting on Christ and his righteousness—is the only instrument of justification; yet it is not the only grace in the person justified, but is always accompanied by all other saving graces. Justifying faith is not dead, but works by love.
*Gloria (Tune: “Lauda Anima”)
Glory be to Him who loved us,
Washed us from each sinful stain;
Glory be to Him who made us
Priests and kings with Him to reign;
Glory, worship, laud and blessing
To the Lamb who once was slain.
New Testament Reading: I John 2:15-29
Hymn of Praise: “We Rest on Thee” (SH 658)
1 We rest on thee - our shield and our defender!
We go not forth alone against the foe;
strong in thy strength, safe in thy keeping tender,
"We rest on thee, and in thy name we go."
strong in thy strength, safe in thy keeping tender,
"We rest on thee, and in thy name we go."
2 Yea, "in thy name," O Captain of salvation!
In thy dear name, all other names above;
Jesus our righteousness, our sure foundation,
our Prince of glory and our King of love.
Jesus our righteousness, our sure foundation,
our Prince of glory and our King of love.
3 "We go" in faith, our own great weakness feeling,
and needing more each day thy grace to know:
yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on thee, and in thy name we go.”
yet from our hearts a song of triumph pealing,
“We rest on thee, and in thy name we go.”
4 "We rest on thee" - our shield and our defender!
Thine is the battle, thine shall be the praise;
when passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
victors - we rest with thee, through endless days.
When passing through the gates of pearly splendor,
victors - we rest with thee, through endless days.
Congregational Prayers
Almighty God, we come before you and declare your goodness and rest in your love. The wickedness of the world grieves us; the prosperity of the proud and profane confuses and disturbs us. But in your presence, we find wisdom and comfort; and in your truth, we take refuge. The wicked will fall, and the proud will perish. But you are with us always; you hold us by the hand; you guide us with your counsel; and you’ll take us to be with you in glory. Whom have we in heaven but you? There is nothing on earth we desire besides you. Our flesh and our hearts may fail, but you are the strength of our life and our portion forever. How good it is to draw near to you! Sovereign God, you are our refuge. In you we will rest and rejoice. We come to you in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer
Words of Encouragement
Minister: We give thanks to you, O God; we give thanks, for your name is near. We recount your wondrous deeds. “At the set time that I appoint I will judge with equity. When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars. I say to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’”…. It is God who executes judgment, putting down one and lifting up another. For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. But I will declare it forever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob. All the horns of the wicked I will cut off, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.” (Psalm 75)
People: To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” (TH No. 38)
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
2 Unresting, unhasting and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
3 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render; O help us to see
'tis only the splendor of light hideth thee!
Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings
*Doxology (Tune: “Lasst Uns Erfreuen”)
Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One;
O praise Him, O praise Him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
Reading of the Holy Scriptures: Matthew 24:15-28
Minister: This is the Word of God.
Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!
The Prayer for Illumination
Sermon: “The Abomination That Makes Desolate” ( Rev. Seth Wallace)
*Hymn of Response: “O Lord, Thou Judge of All the Earth” (TH No. 49, Tune: “Old Hundredth”
1 O Lord, thou Judge of all the earth,
to whom all vengeance doth belong,
arise and show thy glory forth,
requite the proud, condemn the wrong.
2 How long, O Lord, in boastful pride
shall wicked men triumphant stand?
How long shall they afflict thy saints
and scorn thy wrath, thy dreadful hand?
3 Be wise, ye fools and brutish men;
shall not he see, who formed the eye?
Shall not he hear, who formed the ear,
and judge, who reigneth, God Most High?
4 The Lord will judge in righteousness,
from him all truth and knowledge flow;
the foolish thoughts of wicked men,
how vain they are the Lord doth know.
5 That man is blest whom thou, O Lord,
with chast'ning hand dost teach thy will,
for in the day when sinners fall,
that man in peace abideth still.
6 Unless the Lord had been my help,
my life had quickly passed away;
but when my foot had almost slipped,
O Lord, thy mercy was my stay.
