Morning Worship Service on The Lord's Day, February 8, 2026

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge. Psalm 91:1-2, 4

Prelude

Welcome and Announcements

The Voluntary for Silent Prayer

*Call to Worship: Psalm 13:5-6; Exodus 15:2

Minister: I have trusted in your steadfast love;

People: my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

Minister: I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

People: The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation

Unison: this is my God, and I will praise him.

*Hymn of Adoration: “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” (TH No. 77)

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
to his feet your tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
who like me, his praise should sing?
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

2 Praise him for his grace and favor
to our fathers in distress;
praise him, still the same forever,
slow to chide and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness.

3 Father-like, he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy goes.

4 Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish,
blows the wind and it is gone;
but while mortals rise and perish,
God endures unchanging on.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the High Eternal One.

5 Angels, help us to adore him;
you behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Invocation

To you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. You are good, merciful and forgiving, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Give ear, O LORD, to my prayer; listen to my plea for grace. In the day of my trouble I call upon you, for you answer me. There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours. All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God. Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

(from Psalm 86)

*Confession of Faith: Heidelberg Catechism 21

Minister: What is true faith?

People: True faith is a sure knowledge whereby I accept as true all that God has revealed to us in his Word. At the same time it is a firm confidence that not only to others, but also to me, God has granted forgiveness of sins, everlasting righteousness, and salvation, out of mere grace, only for the sake of Christ's merits. This faith the Holy Spirit works in my heart

Unison: Thanks be to God!

*Gloria Patri (Tune: “Lauda Anima”)

Glory be to him who loved us,
washed us from each spot and stain;
glory be to him who bought us,
made us kings with him to reign!
Glory, blessing, honor, power,
to the Lamb that once was slain!

Psalter Reading: Psalm 91

Minister: He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

People: I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Minister: Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

People: He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Minister: You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

People: nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

Minister: A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

People: You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

Minister: If you make the Most High your dwelling—even the Lord, who is my refuge--

People: then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.

Minister: For he will command his angles concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

People: they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

Minister: You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;

People: you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

Minister: “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;

People: “I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

Minister: “He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

People: “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Alas, and Did My Savior Bleed” (TH No. 254)

1 Alas! and did my Savior bleed,
and did my Sovereign die!
Would he devote that sacred head
for such a worm as I!

2 Was it for crimes that I had done
he groaned upon the tree!
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

3 Well might the sun in darkness hide,
and shut his glories in,
when Christ, the mighty Maker, died
for man the creature's sin.

4 Thus might I hide my blushing face
while his dear cross appears;
dissolve my hea rt in thankfulness,
and melt mine eyes in tears.

5 But drops of grief can ne'er repay
the debt of love I owe;
here, Lord, I give myself away,
'tis all that I can do.

Public Confession

Gracious and loving Father, our sins are too heavy to carry, too real to hide, and too deep to undo. Forgive what our lips tremble to name, what our hearts can no longer bear, what has become for us a consuming fire of judgment. Set us free from a past that we cannot change; open to us a future filled with hope, in which we can be changed; and grant us grace to grow more and more in your likeness and image, through Jesus Christ, our light and our life. Amen.

Pastoral Prayer

Promise of the Gospel

If You, O LORD, should mark iniquities, O LORD, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, that you may be feared. O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with Him is plentiful redemption. Psalm 130:3-4, 7

*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “What Wondrous Love Is This” (TH No. 261)

1 What wondrous love is this, O my soul, O my soul,
what wondrous love is this, O my soul!
What wondrous love is this that caused the Lord of bliss
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul,
to bear the dreadful curse for my soul!

2 To God and to the Lamb, I will sing, I will sing,
to God and to the Lamb, I will sing;
to God and to the Lamb, who is the great I AM,
while millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing,
while millions join the theme, I will sing!

3 And when from death I'm free, I'll sing on, I'll sing on,
and when from death I'm free, I'll sing on;
and when from death I'm free, I'll sing and joyful be,
and through eternity I'll sing on, I'll sing on,
and through eternity I'll sing on!

Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings

*Doxology (Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen””)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below; Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost;
O Praise Him! O Praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

*Reading of The Holy Scriptures: Matthew 23:37-24:2

Minister: This is the Word of God.

Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!

*The Prayer for Illumination

Sermon: “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem” (Rev. Seth Wallace)

*Hymn of Response and Preparation: “Amidst Us Our Beloved Stands” (TH No. 427)

1 Amidst us our Beloved stands,
and bids us view his pierced hands;
points to the wounded feet and side,
blest emblems of the Crucified.

2 What food luxurious loads the board,
when athis table sits the Lord!
The wine how rich, the bread how sweet,
when Jesus deigns the guests to meet!

3 If now, with eyes defiled and dim,
we see the signs, but see not him;
O may his love the scales displace,
and bid us see him face to face!

4 O glorious Bridegroom of our hearts,
your present smile a heav’n imparts!
O lift the veil, if veil there be,
let every saint your glory see!

The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper

Invitation and Instructions

All who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and have been baptized and who are communicant members in good standing in an evangelical church are invited to come to participate in this sacred Sacrament of the Church. This is not a Presbyterian table, and we do not restrict it as such; it is the Lord’s Table. However, the church alone grants access to the table and must guard it from the leaven of unrighteousness (1 Cor. 5:6-8). Therefore, if you have not repented and trusted in Christ or if you are harboring sin in your life or if there is anyone with whom you are not at peace with so far as it depends on you (Rom. 12:18), please do not participate in this meal. We invite you instead to use this time to reflect and ask God to speak to your heart and give you more light and understanding. Children who have not been admitted to the table by the church should also refrain from partaking of the Supper.

*Departing Hymn: “The Power of the Cross” (SH No. 82)

1 Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

Refrain:
This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us,
Took the blame, bore the wrath:
We stand forgiven at the cross.

2 Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face
Bearing the awesome weight of sin;
Every bitter thought,
Every evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

3 Now the daylight flees,
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
‘Finished!’ the victory cry.

4 Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death,
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

Refrain:
This, the power of the cross:
Son of God, slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.

*Benediction

Postlude

*Denotes congregation standing, if able.

The deacons encourage you to consider supporting their work among those in need by giving an offering as you leave worship this morning. This offering will be used to provide assistance to those in our congregation and wider community who have financial and material needs. Please use the mercy box to make your gift. Many thanks to you!
