My soul will rejoice in the Lord, exulting in his salvation. (Psalm 35:9)

Prelude

Welcome and Announcements

The Voluntary for Silent Prayer

“Holy Spirit, living breath of God,
breathe new life into my willing soul;

bring the presence of the risen Lord
to renew my heart and make me whole.

Cause your word to come alive in me;
give me faith for what I cannot see.

Give me passion for your purity;
Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me.”

“Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God” (SH 865)

*Call to Worship: Isaiah 45:18, 48:12-13

Minister: Thus says the Lord, who created the heavens

People: He is God!

Minister: Who formed the earth and made it

People: He established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!

Minister: “I am the Lord, and there is no other. . . . I am he; I am the first, and I am the last.

People: My hand laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand spread out the heavens.”

Unison: Come, let us give praise to our Creator God.

*Hymn of Adoration: “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” (TH No. 53)

1 Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise him, for he is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear,
now to his temple draw near,
join me in glad adoration.

2 Praise to the Lord, who o'er all things so wondrously reigneth,
shelters thee under his wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen
how thy desires e'er have been
granted in what he ordaineth?

3 Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee!
Surely his goodness and mercy here daily attend thee;
ponder anew
what the Almighty will do,
if with his love he befriend thee.

4 Praise to the Lord, who with marvelous wisdom hath made thee,
decked thee with health, and with loving hand guided and stayed thee.
How oft in grief
hath not he brought thee relief,
spreading his wings to o'ershade thee!

5 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before him!
Let the amen
sound from his people again;
gladly fore'er we adore him.

*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Prayer

Unison: Our Lord and God, worthy are you, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. And blessed are you, O Lord, forever and ever. For yours is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name.

From Revelation 4:11 and I Chronicles 29:10-13

*Confession of Faith: Heidelberg Catechism 26

Minister: What do you believe when you say, I believe in God the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth?

People: That the eternal Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who out of nothing created heaven and earth and all that is in them, and who still upholds and governs them by his eternal counsel and providence, is, for the sake of Christ his Son, my God and my Father. In him I trust so completely as to have no doubt that he will provide me with all things necessary for body and soul, and will also turn to my good whatever adversity he sends me in this life of sorrow. He is able to do so as almighty God, and willing also as a faithful Father.

All: Thanks be to God!

*Gloria (Tune: “Regent Square”)

Glory, worship, laud and blessing,
Thus the choir triumphant sings;
Honor, riches, power, dominion,
Thus its praise creation brings;
Thou art worthy, Thou art worthy,
Lord of Lords, and King of kings.

Psalter Reading: Psalm 65

Minister: Praise awaits you, O God, in Zion;

People: to you our vows will be fulfilled.

Minister: O you who hear prayer, to you all men will come.

People: When we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions.

Minister: Blessed are those you choose and bring near to live in your courts!

People: We are filled with the good things of your house, of your holy temple.

Minister: You answer us with awesome deeds of righteousness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas,

People: who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength,

Minister: who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.

People: Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy.

Minister: You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.

People: The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.

Minister: You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops.

People: You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.

Minister: The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness.

People: The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing.

Hymn of Response: “All Praise to God Who Reigns Above” (TH No. 4)

1 All praise to God, who reigns above,
the God of all creation,
the God of wonders, pow'r, and love,
the God of our salvation!
With healing balm my soul he fills,
the God who every sorrow stills.
To God all praise and glory!

2 What God's almighty pow'r hath made
his gracious mercy keepeth;
by morning dawn or evening shade
his watchful eye ne'er sleepeth;
within the kingdom of his might,
lo, all is just and all is right.
To God all praise and glory!

3 I cried to him in time of need:
Lord God, O hear my calling!
For death he gave me life indeed
and kept my feet from falling.
For this my thanks shall endless be;
O thank him, thank our God, with me.
To God all praise and glory!

4 The Lord forsaketh not his flock,
his chosen generation;
he is their refuge and their rock,
their peace and their salvation.
As with a mother's tender hand
he leads his own, his chosen band.
To God all praise and glory!

5 Ye who confess Christ's holy name,
to God give praise and glory!
Ye who the Father's pow'r proclaim,
to God give praise and glory!
All idols underfoot be trod,
the Lord is God! The Lord is God!
To God all praise and glory!

6 Then come before his presence now
and banish fear and sadness;
to your Redeemer pay your vow
and sing with joy and gladness:
Though great distress my soul befell,
the Lord, my God, did all things well,
To God all praise and glory!

Prayer of Confession

Unison: Almighty God, we are unworthy to come into your presence because of our many sins. If you dealt with us as we deserve, we would not receive any grace or mercy from you. We have sinned against you, O Lord, and we have offended you. And yet, O Lord, as we acknowledge our sins and offenses, so also do we acknowledge you to be a merciful God, a loving and favorable Father to all who turn to you. And so we humbly ask you, for the sake of Christ your son, to show us mercy and forgive all of our offenses. Forgive the sins of our youth and the sins of our old age. By your Spirit, O God, take possession of our hearts so that, not only the actions of our life, but the words of our mouths and the smallest thoughts of our minds, may be guided and governed by you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be all honor and glory now and forever, Amen.

Pastoral Prayer

Words of Encouragement

Minister: But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.

Unison: Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name!

*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Arise, My Soul, Arise” (TH No. 305)

1 Arise, my soul, arise,
shake off your guilty fears:
the bleeding Sacrifice
in my behalf appears:
before the throne my Surety stands,
before the throne my Surety stands,
my name is written on his hands.

2 He ever lives above,
for me to intercede,
his all-redeeming love,
his precious blood to plead;
his blood atoned for ev'ry race,
his blood atoned for ev'ry race,
and sprinkles now the throne of grace.

3 Five bleeding wounds he bears,
received on Calvary;
they pour effectual prayers,
they strongly plead for me.
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"Forgive him, O forgive," they cry,
"nor let that ransomed sinner die!"

4 My God is reconciled;
his pard'ning voice I hear;
he owns me for his child,
I can no longer fear;
with confidence I now draw nigh,
with confidence I now draw nigh,
and "Father, Abba, Father!" cry.

Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings

*Doxology (Tune: “Old Hundredth”)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

*Reading of The Holy Scriptures: Psalm 104:10-18

Minister: This is the Word of God.

Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!

*The Prayer for Illumination

Sermon: “My Father’s World: The Fountain of Living Water” (Rev. Michael Glodo)

*Hymn of Preparation: “There Is a Fountain” (SH No. 419)

1 There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Immanuel's veins;
and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains;
lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains;
and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.

2 The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day;
and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away;
wash all my sins away, wash all my sins away;
and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away.

3 Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its pow'r,
till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more;
be saved to sin no more, be saved to sin no more;
till all the ransomed church of God be saved to sin no more.

4 E'er since by faith I saw the stream thy flowing wounds supply,
redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die;
and shall be till I die, and shall be till I die;
redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die.

5 When this poor lisping, stamm'ring tongue lies silent in the grave,
then in a nobler, sweeter song, I'll sing thy pow'r to save;
I'll sing thy pow'r to save, I'll sing thy pow'r to save,
then in a nobler, sweeter song, I'll sing thy pow'r to save.

The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper

Invitation and Instructions

All who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and have been baptized and who are communicant members in good standing in an evangelical church are invited to come to participate in this sacred Sacrament of the Church. This is not a Presbyterian table, and we do not restrict it as such; it is the Lord’s Table. However, the church alone grants access to the table and must guard it from the leaven of unrighteousness (1 Cor. 5:6-8). Therefore, if you have not repented and trusted in Christ or if you are harboring sin in your life or if there is anyone with whom you are not at peace with so far as it depends on you (Rom. 12:18), please do not participate in this meal. We invite you instead to use this time to reflect and ask God to speak to your heart and give you more light and understanding. Children who have not been admitted to the table by the church should also refrain from partaking of the Supper.

For those who prefer, the outer ring of the tray is grape juice. The bread is gluten free. Please hold the bread and cup until all have been served so that we may partake together.

*Hymn of Response: “His Robes for Mine” (SH No. 259)

1 His robes for mine: oh, wonderful exchange!
Clothed in my sin, Christ suffered 'neath God's rage.
Draped in his righteousness, I'm justified.
In Christ I live, for in my place he died.

Chorus
I cling to Christ and marvel at the cost:
Jesus forsaken, God estranged from God.
Bought by such love, my life is not my own.
My praise, my all shall be for Christ alone.

2 His robes for mine: what cause have I for dread?
God's daunting law Christ mastered in my stead.
Faultless I stand with righteous works not mine,
saved by my Lord's vicarious death and life.

3 His robes for mine: God's justice is appeased.
Jesus is crushed, and thus the Father's pleased.
Christ drank God's wrath on sin, then cried,
"'Tis done!" Sin's wage is paid; propitiation won.

4 His robes for mine: such anguish none can know;
Christ, God's beloved, condemned as though his foe.
He, as though I, accursed and left alone;
I, as though he, embraced and welcomed home!
