Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law. Psalm 119:18
Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
The Voluntary for Silent Prayer
*Call to Worship: Psalm 33
Minister: Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright.
People: For the word of the Lord is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.
Minister: Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.
People: Our soul waits for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name.
Unison: Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you.
*Hymn of Adoration: “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” (No. 32)
1 Great is thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
there is no shadow of turning with thee;
thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
as thou hast been thou forever wilt be.
Refrain:
Great is thy faithfulness!
Great is thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see:
all I have needed thy hand hath provided -
Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
2 Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
sun, moon, and stars in their courses above,
join with all nature in manifold witness
to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love. [Refrain]
3 Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside! [Refrain]
*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Prayer
Unison: Blessed be your name, O Lord! For you have heard our pleas for mercy. You are our strength and our shield; in you our hearts trust, and we are helped. With song we give thanks to you. With awe we recount your wondrous deeds. With joy we remember your goodness and your steadfast love. With our whole heart, we glorify your name. Oh, save us, your people, O Lord, and bless your heritage! Be our shepherd and carry us forever. Amen.
*Confession of Faith: Heidelberg Catechism 117
Minister: What belongs to a prayer which pleases God and is heard by him?
People: First, we must from the heart call upon the one true God only, who has revealed himself in his Word, for all that he has commanded us to pray. Second, we must thoroughly know our need and misery, so that we may humble ourselves before God. Third, we must rest on this firm foundation that, although we do not deserve it, God will certainly hear our prayer for the sake of Christ our Lord, as he has promised us in his Word.
Unison: I love the Lord, because he has heard my voice and my pleas for mercy.
*Gloria (Tune: “Ode to Joy”)
Glory be to God in heaven, peace to those who love him well.
On the earth let all his people speak his grace, his wonders tell:
Lord, we praise you for your glory, Mighty Father, heaven's King;
Hear our joyful adoration, and accept the thanks we bring.
Psalter Reading: Psalm 42
Minister: As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God.
People: My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?
Minister: My tears have been my food day and night,
People: while men say to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
Minister: These things I remember as I pour out my soul;
People: how I used to go with the multitude, leading the procession to the house of God, with shouts of joy and thanksgiving among the festive throng.
Minister: Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?
People: Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Minister: My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.
People: Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.
Minister: By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me—a prayer to the God of my life.
People: I say to God my Rock, “Why have you forgotten me?”
Minister: “Why must I go about mourning, oppressed by the enemy?”
People: My bones suffer mortal agony as my foes taunt me, saying to me all day long, “Where is your God?”
Minister: Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me?
People: Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
*Hymn of Approach: “As the Hart Longs for Flowing Streams” (No. 662)
1 As the hart longs for flowing streams,
So longs my soul for thee O God.
My soul does thirst for the living God;
When shall I come to see thy face?
2 My tears have fed me day and night,
While men have said, “Where is your God?”
But I recall as my soul pours dry
The days of praise within thy house.
3 Why do I mourn and toil within,
When it is mine to hope in God?
I shall again sing praise to Him;
He is my help He is my God.

The Prayers of Intercession
Unison: Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
Minister: Father, we pray for your people throughout the world; for our denomination; for this church; and for all ministers and missionaries. We pray especially for the Amjad and Sarah in England, the Lees with RUF, the Mugaris in Zimbabwe, and Mike Osborne with Standing Stone Ministries.
People: We pray for the leaders of our nation and all who hold authority, that they would govern according to your truth, and especially that they would resolve to protect the lives of the unborn and defenseless.
Minister: We pray for the world, especially that you would bring peace and justice and deliverance to nations and peoples oppressed by war, by disaster, by tyranny, and by evil. We pray for our brothers and sisters in these places as they offer the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ amid great danger and opposition.
Unison: Lord, hear our prayer.

Pastoral Prayer
Words of Encouragement
Minister: Blessed be the Lord! For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy. The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.
Unison: Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!
*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Speak, O Lord” (SH No.11)
1 Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of your holy word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfil in us
All Your purposes, for Your glory.
2 Teach us Lord full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility.
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise
Cause our eyes to see,
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of power that can never fail;
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.
3 Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us.
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time,
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises;
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, ’til your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory.

Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings

Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; Amen.
*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
*Reading of The Holy Scriptures: Psalm 130
Minister: This is the Word of God.
Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!
*The Prayer for Illumination
Sermon: “I Wait for the Lord” (Rev. Seth Wallace)
*Hymn of Response: “Jesus, Thou Joy of Loving Hearts” (No. 646)
1 Jesus, thou joy of loving hearts,
thou fount of life, thou light of men,
from the best bliss that earth imparts
we turn unfilled to thee again.
2 Thy truth unchanged hath ever stood;
thou savest those that on thee call;
to them that seek thee thou art good,
to them that find thee all in all.
3 We taste thee, O thou living bread,
and long to feast upon thee still;
we drink of thee, the fountain-head,
and thirst our souls from thee to fill.
4 Our restless spirits yearn for thee,
where'er our changeful lot is cast;
glad when thy gracious smile we see,
blest when our faith can hold thee fast.
5 O Jesus, ever with us stay,
make all our moments calm and bright;
chase the dark night of sin away,
shed o'er the world thy holy light.
*Benediction
