Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Welcome and Announcements
The Voluntary for Silent Prayer
*Call to Worship: Psalm 31:21-24
Minister: Blessed be the Lord, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me…
People: You heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.
Minister: Love the Lord, all you his saints!
People: The Lord preserves the faithful but abundantly repays the one who acts in pride.
Minister: Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!
Unison: Come, let us praise our God!
*Hymn of Adoration: “Jesus, Lover of My Soul” (No. 508)
1 Jesus, lover of my soul,
let me to thy bosom fly,
while the nearer waters roll,
while the tempest still is high:
hide me, O my Savior, hide,
till the storm of life is past;
safe into the haven guide,
O receive my soul at last!
2 Other refuge have I none,
hangs my helpless soul on thee;
leave, ah! leave me not alone,
still support and comfort me!
All my trust on thee is stayed,
all my help from thee I bring;
cover my defenseless head
with the shadow of thy wing.
3 Thou, O Christ, art all I want;
more than all in thee I find:
raise the fallen, cheer the faint,
heal the sick, and lead the blind.
Just and holy is thy name;
I am all unrighteousness;
false and full of sin I am,
thou art full of truth and grace.
4 Plenteous grace with thee is found,
grace to cover all my sin;
let the healing streams abound;
make and keep me pure within:
thou of life the fountain art,
freely let me take of thee;
spring thou up within my heart,
rise to all eternity.
*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Invocation
Unison: O Lord God, we praise you for your goodness, your faithfulness, your steadfast love, your mercy, and your kindness. You sent your beloved Son to die in our place. You adopted us, making us your children and allowing us to call you Abba, Father. You gave us your Spirit, who indwells us, intercedes for us, enlightens our minds, and convicts us of sin. We thank you for the sure hope you give that will never put us to shame, for the love you grow in us that compels us to obey, for the joy you give that strengthens us, for the faith you implant in us so that we can believe, for the grace you bestow that saves and sanctifies us. We come to you in the name of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
*Confession of Faith (Heidelberg Catechism 117)
Minister: What belongs to a prayer which pleases God and is heard by him?
People: First, we must from the heart call upon the one true God only, who has revealed himself in his Word, for all that he has commanded us to pray. Second, we must thoroughly know our need and misery, so that we may humble ourselves before God. Third, we must rest on this firm foundation that, although we do not deserve it, God will certainly hear our prayer for the sake of Christ our Lord, as he has promised us in his Word.
Unison: Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
*Gloria (Tune: “Lauda Anima”)
Glory be to God the Father, glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit: great Jehovah, Three in One!
Hallelujah, hallelujah, while eternal ages run!
Psalter Reading: Psalm 86
Minister: Hear, O Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.
People: Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.
Minister: You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you.
People: Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I call to you all day long.
Minister: Bring joy to your servant, for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
People: You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.
Minister: Hear my prayer, O Lord; listen to my cry for mercy.
People: In the day of my trouble I will call to you, for you will answer me.
Minister: Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord; no deeds can compare with yours.
People: All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, O Lord; they will bring glory to your name.
Minister: For you are great and do marvelous deeds;
People: you alone are God.
Minister: Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth;
People: give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Minister: I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
People: For great is your love toward me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.
Minister: The arrogant are attacking me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life—men without regard for you.
People: But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
Minister: Turn to me and have mercy on me; grant your strength to your servant and save the son of your maidservant.
People: Give me a sign of your goodness, that my enemies may see it and be put to shame, for you, O Lord, have helped me and comforted me.
Hymn of Response: “Be Still My Soul” (No. 689)
1 Be still, my soul: the Lord is on your side;
bear patiently the cross of grief or pain;
leave to your God to order and provide;
in ev'ry change he faithful will remain.
Be still, my soul: your best, your heav'nly Friend
through thorny ways leads to a joyful end.
2 Be still, my soul: your God will undertake
to guide the future as he has the past.
Your hope, your confidence let nothing shake;
all now mysterious shall be bright at last.
Be still, my soul: the waves and winds still know
his voice who ruled them while he dwelt below.
3 Be still, my soul: when dearest friends depart,
and all is darkened in the vale of tears,
then shall you better know his love, his heart,
who comes to soothe your sorrow and your fears.
Be still, my soul: your Jesus can repay
from his own fullness all he takes away.
4 Be still, my soul: the hour is hast'ning on
when we shall be forever with the Lord,
when disappointment, grief, and fear are gone,
sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored.
Be still, my soul: when change and tears are past,
all safe and blessed we shall meet at last.
Public Confession
People: Eternal Father: You are good beyond all thought, but we are slow of heart and blind; our lips are ready to confess, but our hearts are slow to feel, and our ways reluctant to amend. Unmask to us sin’s deformity that we may hate it, abhor it, and flee from it. Our faculties have been a weapon of revolt against you; as we rebel, we misuse our strength and serve the foul adversary of your kingdom. Give us grace to bewail our insane folly; and grant that through the tears of repentance, we may see more clearly the brightness and glories of the saving cross.
Private Confession
Pastoral Prayer
Promise of the Gospel
Minister: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.
People: Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” (No. 77)
1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
to his feet your tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
who like me, his praise should sing?
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.
2 Praise him for his grace and favor
to our fathers in distress;
praise him, still the same forever,
slow to chide and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness.
3 Father-like, he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy goes.
4 Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish,
blows the wind and it is gone;
but while mortals rise and perish,
God endures unchanging on.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the High Eternal One.
5 Angels, help us to adore him;
you behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.
Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings
*Doxology (Tune: “Old Hundredth”)
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost; Amen.
*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
*Reading of the Holy Scriptures: Matthew 6:25-34
Minister: This is the Word of God.
Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!
*The Prayer for Illumination
Sermon: “Pray Your Worries” (Rev. Mike Osborne)
*Hymn of Response and Preparation: “It Is Well with My Soul” (No. 691)
1 When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
when sorrows like sea billows roll;
whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say,
"It is well, it is well with my soul."
Refrain:
It is well with my soul;
it is well, it is well with my soul.
2 Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
let this blest assurance control,
that Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
and has shed his own blood for my soul. [Refrain]
3 My sin– O the bliss of this glorious thought!–
my sin, not in part, but the whole,
is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more;
praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul! [Refrain]
4 O Lord, haste the day when the faith shall be sight,
the clouds be rolled back as a scroll,
the trump shall resound and the Lord shall descend;
"Even so"– it is well with my soul. [Refrain]
The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
Invitation and Instructions
All who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and have been baptized and who are communicant members in good standing in an evangelical church are invited to come to participate in this sacred Sacrament of the Church. This is not a Presbyterian table, and we do not restrict it as such; it is the Lord’s Table. However, the church alone grants access to the table and must guard it from the leaven of unrighteousness (1 Cor. 5:6-8). Therefore, if you have not repented and trusted in Christ or if you are harboring sin in your life or if there is anyone with whom you are not at peace with so far as it depends on you (Rom. 12:18), please do not participate in this meal. We invite you instead to use this time to reflect and ask God to speak to your heart and give you more light and understanding. Children who have not been admitted to the table by the church should also refrain from partaking of the Supper.
For those who prefer, the outer ring of the tray is grape juice. The bread is gluten free. Please hold the bread and cup until all have been served so that we may partake together.
*Departing Hymn: “The Power of the Cross” (SH No. 5)
1 Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.
This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us,
Took the blame, bore the wrath:
We stand forgiven at the cross.
2 Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face
Bearing the awesome weight of sin;
Every bitter thought,
Every evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow.
3 Now the daylight flees,
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
‘Finished!’ the victory cry.
4 Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death,
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.
This, the power of the cross:
Son of God, slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.
