250525 – Worship Bulletin

Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times."

Morning Worship Service on The Lord's Day, May 25, 2025

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. (Colossians 3:12-13)

Prelude

Welcome and Announcements

The Voluntary for Silent Prayer

*Call to Worship: Psalm 86:11-15

Minister: Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.

People: I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.

Minister: For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol….

People: You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

Unison: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!

*Hymn of Adoration: “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” (No. 77)

1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
to his feet your tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
who like me, his praise should sing?
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

2 Praise him for his grace and favor
to our fathers in distress;
praise him, still the same forever,
slow to chide and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness.

3 Father-like, he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy goes.

4 Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish,
blows the wind and it is gone;
but while mortals rise and perish,
God endures unchanging on.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the High Eternal One.

5 Angels, help us to adore him;
you behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Prayer

Unison: Gracious Father, we praise you for sending Immanuel, your beloved Son, to dwell among men, to reveal your glory and your grace, and to proclaim your truth. We thank you that he came as a servant, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. We thank you that he suffered temptation, yet without sin. We praise you that for our sake, he endured the shame and agony of the cross, that he bore our sins and took the wrath that we deserve. We rejoice that you raised him from the dead and that he now sits at your right hand, where he intercedes for us. And we exalt in your promise that he will come again for us and that one day in the new heaven and the new earth, you will dwell with your people, that you will wipe every tear from our eyes, that there will be no more mourning or crying or pain. And so we cry, “Come, Lord Jesus!” Amen.

*Confession of Faith: Heidelberg Catechism 126

Minister: What is the fifth petition of the Lord’s Prayer?

People: Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. That is: For the sake of Christ's blood, do not impute to us, wretched sinners, any of our transgressions, nor the evil which still clings to us, as we also find this evidence of your grace in us that we are fully determined wholeheartedly to forgive our neighbor.

Unison: Thanks be to God!

*Gloria (Tune: “Lauda Anima”)

Glory be to him who loved us,
washed us from each spot and stain;
glory be to him who bought us,
made us kings with him to reign!
Honor, power, glory, blessing to the Lamb that once was slain!

Psalter Reading: Psalm 130

*Hymn of Response: “My Hope Is in the Lord” (No. 523)

1 My Hope is in the Lord,
who gave Himself for me
And paid the price of all my sin at Calvary

Refrain
For me He died; For me He lives,
And everlasting life and light He freely gives.

2 No merit of my own
His anger to suppress,
My only hope is found in Jesus' righteousness

3 And now for me He stands
before the Father's throne;
He shows His wounded hands and names me as His own.

4 His grace has planned it all,
'Tis mine but to believe
And recognize His work of love and Christ receive.

Words of Encouragement

Minister: For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. (I Peter 1:21-24)

People: Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “The Power of the Cross” (SH No. 5)

1 Oh, to see the dawn
Of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men,
Torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood.

Refrain One:
This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us,
Took the blame, bore the wrath:
We stand forgiven at the cross.

2 Oh, to see the pain
Written on Your face
Bearing the awesome weight of sin;
Every bitter thought,
Every evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow. [Refrain]

3 Now the daylight flees,
Now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two,
Dead are raised to life;
‘Finished!’ the victory cry. [Refrain]

4 Oh, to see my name
Written in the wounds,
For through Your suffering I am free.
Death is crushed to death,
Life is mine to live,
Won through Your selfless love.

Refrain Two:
This, the power of the cross:
Son of God, slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings

*Doxology (Tune: “Lasst Uns Erfreuen”)

Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One;
O praise Him, O praise Him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!

*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication

*Reading of The Holy Scriptures: Matthew 18:21-35

Minister: This is the Word of God.

Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!

*The Prayer for Illumination

Sermon: “Forgive from Your Heart” (Rev. Seth Wallace)

*Hymn of Response: “Amazing Grace” (No. 460)

1 Amazing grace!– how sweet the sound–
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.

2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!

3 Thro' many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

4 The Lord has promised good to me,
his Word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be,
as long as life endures.

5 And when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil
a life of joy and peace.

6 When we've been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
we've no less days to sing God's praise
than when we've first begun.
