The Lord’s Day, February 18, 2024
10:30 AM Morning Service
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14
Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
The Voluntary for Silent Prayer
*Call to Worship: Luke 1:68, 79
Minister: “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,
People: for he has visited and redeemed his people….
Minister: to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
People: to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Unison: Blessed are you, O Lord our God!
*Hymn of Adoration: “Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven” ( No. 77)
1 Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
to his feet your tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
who like me, his praise should sing?
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.
2 Praise him for his grace and favor
to our fathers in distress;
praise him, still the same forever,
slow to chide and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious in his faithfulness.
3 Father-like, he tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame he knows;
in his hands he gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely as his mercy goes.
4 Frail as summer's flow'r we flourish,
blows the wind and it is gone;
but while mortals rise and perish,
God endures unchanging on.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the High Eternal One.
5 Angels, help us to adore him;
you behold him face to face;
sun and moon, bow down before him,
dwellers all in time and space.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.
*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Invocation
God of Mercy: We praise you! For we were dead in our trespasses and sins. We were following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, and we were by our nature children of wrath. But you, God, are rich in mercy and great in love. Even when we were dead in our sins, you made us alive together with Christ. By grace we have been saved! And you raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly places, so that in the coming ages you might show the immeasurable riches of your grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For this, Father, we thank you and we praise you. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
From Ephesians 2:1-7
*Affirmation of Faith: Westminster Larger Catechism 24 and 27
Minister: What is sin?
People: Sin is any want of conformity unto, or transgression of, any law of God, given as a rule to the reasonable creature.
Minister: What misery did the fall bring upon mankind?
People: The fall brought upon mankind the loss of communion with God, his displeasure and curse; so as we are by nature children of wrath, bond slaves to Satan, and justly liable to all punishments in this world, and that which is to come.
*Hallelujah (Tune: “Ode to Joy”)
Hallelujah, praise Jehovah, O my soul, Jehovah praise;
I will sing the glorious praises of my God through all my days.
Over all God reigns forever, through all ages he is King;
unto him, your God, O Zion, joyful hallelujahs sing.
New Testament Reading: Ephesians 6:10-20
*Hymn of Response: “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” (No. 598)
1 Guide me, O thou great Jehovah,
pilgrim through this barren land;
I am weak, but thou art mighty;
hold me with thy pow'rful hand;
Bread of heaven, Bread of heaven,
feed me till I want no more,
feed me till I want no more.
2 Open now the crystal fountain,
whence the healing stream doth flow;
let the fire and cloudy pillar
lead me all my journey through;
strong Deliv'rer, strong Deliv'rer,
be thou still my strength and shield,
be thou still my strength and shield.
3 When I tread the verge of Jordan,
bid my anxious fears subside;
Death of death, and hell's Destruction,
land me safe on Canaan's side;
songs of praises, songs of praises
I will ever give to thee,
I will ever give to thee.
The Prayers of Intercession
Unison: Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace and for the hope of glory. Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us, granting us in this world knowledge of Thy truth and in the world to come life everlasting. Amen.
Minister: Father, we pray for your people throughout the world; for our denomination; for this church; and for all ministers and missionaries.
People: We pray for the leaders of our nation and all who hold authority, especially that they would resolve to protect the lives of the unborn and defenseless.
Minister: We pray for the world, especially that you would bring peace to the Middle East and to all nations in need of true reformation and restoration. We pray for our brothers and sisters in these places as they offer the hope of the gospel of Jesus Christ amid great danger and opposition.
People: And we pray that we may have grace to glorify Christ in our own day.
Pastoral Prayer
Words of Encouragement
Minister: The Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. (Romans 8:26-27)
People: Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!
*Hymn of Preparation: “Speak, O Lord” (SH No. 11)
1 Speak, O Lord, as we come to You
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.
2 Teach us, Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility;
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of pow’r that can never fail—
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.
3 Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us—
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises,
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory.

Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings
*Doxology (Tune: Lasst Uns Erfreuen)
Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him, alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One;
O praise Him, O praise Him,
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!
Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
*Reading of the Holy Scriptures: Matthew 8:28-34
Minister: This is the Word of God.
Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!
*The Prayer for Illumination
Sermon: “Power over the Spiritual Realm” (Rev. Seth Wallace)
*Closing Hymn: “Amazing Grace” (No. 460)
1 Amazing grace!– how sweet the sound–
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
was blind, but now I see.
2 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed!
3 Thro' many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
'tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.
4 The Lord has promised good to me,
his Word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be,
as long as life endures.
5 And when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil
a life of joy and peace.
6 When we've been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
we've no less days to sing God's praise
than when we've first begun.
*The Benediction
Postlude
*Denotes congregation standing, if able.
If you would like someone to pray with you, an Elder will be available at the front of the sanctuary following the service.

In this study of Hebrews, we will learn how Christ is the substance of the shadowy truths of the Old Testament, especially Exodus, which we just finished. Discover how he fulfills and completes the work of angels, prophets, priests, and ceremonial laws, establishing a better covenant. Hebrews calls us to fix our gaze on the resurrected Christ as we run the race set before us. In Him alone we have hope and salvation.
Study books may be found on the book table for $15 each. You may deposit cash or a check in the book box and sign your name to the signup sheet, also found on the book table. Thanks! Bring a friend or two!
