261108: Worship Bulletin
When Jesus had spoken these words, he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him."

I am the Lord; that is my name; my glory I give to no other. ~Isaiah 42:8
Prelude
Welcome and Announcements
The Voluntary for Silent Prayer
*Call to Worship: Psalm 86:8-13
Minister: There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours.
People: All the nations you have made shall come and worship before you, O Lord, and shall glorify your name. For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.
Minister: Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.
People I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.
Minister: For great is your steadfast love toward me; you have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol.
Unison: Come let us praise and glorify our God!
*Hymn of Adoration: “Glory Be to God the Father” (SH No. 333)
Glory be to God the Father,
glory be to God the Son,
glory be to God the Spirit,
great Jehovah, Three in One;
glory, glory, glory, glory,
while eternal ages run!
Glory be to him who loved us,
washed us from each spot and stain;
glory be to him who bought us,
made us kings with him to reign;
glory, glory, glory, glory,
to the Lamb that once was slain.
Glory to the King of angels,
glory to the church's King,
glory to the King of nations,
heav'n and earth your praises bring;
glory, glory, glory, glory,
to the King of glory bring!
*Prayer of Adoration and Congregational Prayer
Eternal and glorious God, we praise you for your surpassing greatness, your unspeakable goodness, and your super-abundant grace. We can more easily count the sands on the seashore than number your mercies to us. We know but a part of all you have done for us, but that part exceeds our ability to praise. And so, as we mourn our sin, we fly repenting to your outstretched arms, for we know you will not cast us off. Because we are in your Son, you will draw us near. And you will not condemn us, for Jesus died in our place. In his precious name we come to you. Amen.

*Confession of Faith: Westminster Shorter Catechism 21, 23
Minister: Who is the Redeemer of God’s elect?
People: The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and continues to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, forever.
Minister: What offices does Christ execute as our Redeemer?
People: Christ, as our Redeemer, executes the offices of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king, both in his state of humiliation and exaltation.
Unison: Thanks be to God!
*Gloria (Tune: “My Tribute”)
To God be the glory! To God be the glory!
To God be the glory for the things he hath done!
Old Testament Reading: Exodus 33:17-23
New Testament Reading: John 1:1-5, 9-18
Hymn of Confession: “God of Grace and God of Glory” (SH No. 475)
God of grace and God of glory,
on thy people pour thy pow'r;
crown thine ancient church's story,
bring her bud to glorious flow'r.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage
for the facing of this hour,
for the facing of this hour.
Lo! the hosts of evil round us
scorn thy Christ, assail his ways!
From the fears that long have bound us,
free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage
for the living of these days,
for the living of these days.
Cure thy children's warring madness,
bend our pride to thy control;
shame our wanton, selfish gladness,
rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
lest we miss thy kingdom's goal,
lest we miss thy kingdom's goal.
Save us from weak resignation
to the evils we deplore;
let the gift of thy salvation
be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
serving thee whom we adore,
serving thee whom we adore.
Public Confession
Minister: In repentance and rest is your salvation; in quietness and trust is your strength. Isaiah 30:15
People: Almighty God, we are unworthy to come into your presence because of our many sins. If you dealt with us as we deserve, we would not receive any grace or mercy from you. We have sinned against you, and we have offended you. And yet, O Lord, as we acknowledge our sins and offenses, so also do we acknowledge you to be a merciful God, a loving and favorable Father to all who turn to you. And so, we humbly ask you, for the sake of Christ your son, to show us mercy and forgive all of our offenses. Forgive the sins of our youth and the sins of our old age. By your Spirit, O God, take possession of our hearts so that, not only the actions of our life, but the words of our mouths and the smallest thoughts of our minds, may be guided and governed by you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be all honor and glory now and forever, Amen.

Pastoral Prayer
Promise of the Gospel
Minister: But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. (Ephesians 2:4-8)
People: To the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
*Hymn of Thanksgiving: “Grace Greater Than Our Sin” (SH No. 162)
Marvelous grace of our loving Lord,
grace that exceeds our sin and our guilt;
yonder on Calvary's mount outpoured,
there where the blood of the Lamb was spilt.
Chorus
Grace, grace, God's grace;
(Marvelous grace, infinite grace;)
grace that will pardon and cleanse within!
Grace, grace, God's grace;
(Marvelous grace, infinite grace;)
grace that is greater than all our sin!
Sin and despair, like the sea waves cold
threaten the soul with infinite loss;
grace that is greater, yes, grace untold,
points to the refuge, the mighty cross.
Dark is the stain that we cannot hide—
what can avail to wash it away?
Look! there is flowing a crimson tide;
whiter than snow you may be today.
Marvelous, infinite, matchless grace,
freely bestowed on all who believe;
you who are longing to see his face,
will you this moment his grace receive?
Worship of God through Tithes and Offerings
*Doxology (Tune: “Old Hundredth”)
Praise God from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host:
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
*Prayer of Thanksgiving and Dedication
Reading of The Holy Scriptures: John 17:1-5
Minister: This is the Word of God.
Unison: Thanks be to God for his Word!
The Prayer for Illumination
Sermon: “The High Priestly Prayer, Part One” (Rev. Seth Wallace)
*Hymn of Response and Preparation: “Amidst Us Our Beloved Stands” (TH No. 427)
1 Amidst us our Beloved stands,
and bids us view his pierced hands;
points to the wounded feet and side,
blest emblems of the Crucified.
2 What food luxurious loads the board,
when athis table sits the Lord!
The wine how rich, the bread how sweet,
when Jesus deigns the guests to meet!
3 If now, with eyes defiled and dim,
we see the signs, but see not him;
O may his love the scales displace,
and bid us see him face to face!
4 O glorious Bridegroom of our hearts,
your present smile a heav’n imparts!
O lift the veil, if veil there be,
let every saint your glory see!
The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper
Invitation and Instructions
All who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and have been baptized and who are communicant members in good standing in an evangelical church are invited to come to participate in this sacred Sacrament of the Church. This is not a Presbyterian table, and we do not restrict it as such; it is the Lord’s Table. However, the church alone grants access to the table and must guard it from the leaven of unrighteousness (1 Cor. 5:6-8). Therefore, if you have not repented and trusted in Christ or if you are harboring sin in your life or if there is anyone with whom you are not at peace with so far as it depends on you (Rom. 12:18), please do not participate in this meal. We invite you instead to use this time to reflect and ask God to speak to your heart and give you more light and understanding. Children who have not been admitted to the table by the church should also refrain from partaking of the Supper.
For those who prefer, the outer ring of the tray is grape juice. The bread is gluten free. Please hold the bread and cup until all have been served so that we may partake together.
*Departing Hymn: “Ye Servants of God, Your Master Proclaim” (TH No. 165)
1 Ye servants of God, your Master proclaim,
and publish abroad his wonderful name;
the name, all victorious, of Jesus extol;
his kingdom is glorious and rules over all.
2 God ruleth on high, almighty to save;
and still he is nigh– his presence we have.
The great congregation his triumph shall sing,
ascribing salvation to Jesus, our King.
3 Salvation to God, who sits on the throne!
Let all cry aloud and honor the Son.
The praises of Jesus the angels proclaim,
fall down on their faces and worship the Lamb.
4 Then let us adore, and give him his right,
all glory and pow'r, and wisdom and might,
all honor and blessing, with angels above,
and thanks never ceasing for infinite love.
*The Benediction
Postlude
*Denotes congregational standing, if able.
